Today, the WST team is taking part in our annual modern foreign languages day; a celebration of all things French, German and Spanish.
To celebrate this WST tradition, the team will be enjoying a number of delicacies from France, Spain and Germany – from crepes and croissants to chorizo, patatas bravas and frankfurters. A number of our staff members have also chosen to wear national dress from France and Germany.
While light-hearted in nature, the Modern Foreign Languages Day is part of WST's commitment to support and develop our team's knowledge of our foreign destinations. In 2013, we arranged familiarisation visits to all of our locations and members of our team visited Paris, Barcelona, the Opal Coast and Berlin. This year, we're sending a number of our team to Munich, the Rhineland and Normandy.
We have a number of linguists with our team; Sheelagh, our Contracts Manager, is fluent in French and German. Deborah, Managing Director of WST, has a degree in French and Spanish, while Nicky, our Product and Marketing Manager has a degree in German.
Elsewhere in the team, Julie Smart used to live and work in Munich and is a German speaker. Nici Smith and Julie Mulrooney have both extensively travelled through France for many years and speak French to a high level. Carole Burrows lived amongst the olive groves of Andalucia for five years, so she’s a fluent Spanish speaker (Louisa’s Mum lives in Spain so she’s learning the language too). We also encourage our staff to improve their language skills; supporting the team with any classes they choose to take.
Our ethos is to support and develop our team. We arrange regular familiarisation visits to all our destinations and last year members of the team visited Paris, Barcelona, Opal Coast and Berlin amongst our language destinations. This year we are looking to send the team out to Munich, the Rhineland and Normandy. To compliment this we also encourage the team in improving their language skills and support them with any language lessons they choose to take.
At WST, we're always striving to improve our knowledge of languages and local cultures in order to provide our customers with expert advice and enriching tours. Understanding local customs is an essential part of our job in order to ensure we're offering the most suitable locations and attractions for our customer's individual subjects and needs.
Our Foreign Language Day is a just another example of how we ensure our knowledge travels to our customers.
