With September fast approaching, we know teachers across the country will be beginning to think about the new school year and how to build on the successes of 2013/14.
As academic trips can play a pivotal role in reinforcing classroom learning, the WST team has created this useful calendar to help teachers plan ahead to design engaging educational trips.
WST have some surprises planned for the 2014/15 trip calendar, offering innovative new trips to some of the globe’s most incredible international locations. We can’t reveal all just yet, but can share the news that schools will soon have the chance to watch the spectacular Northern lights in Iceland, best viewed between September and February.
Marking the formal end of World War One, when the Armistice of Compiègne was signed between the Allies and Germany, November the 11th represents a poignant time for history classes to visit the Battlefields of Ypres and the Somme.
December brings with it Christmas markets in Lille, Cologne, Aachen and Berlin. These are some of the most memorable and beautiful markets in the world and will give students a real sense of the culture and traditions of these continental cities. With a choice between one-day and overnight visits, schools have the flexibility to fit these exciting trips into even the most busy term schedule.
Closer to home, touching wartime dramatisation The Christmas Truce is showing in Stratford during December, which is also when Shakespeare’s Globe usually announces the lineup for the 2015 theatre season.
With many UK theatres and other attractions releasing details of their summer calendar between February and April, Spring is the perfect season for teachers to take advantage of early booking discounts with WST.
End of year adventures
Finally, between June and July, it’s important for teachers and students alike to celebrate all their hard work with enrichment activities and end of year treat trips. The promise of a day spent in London or an international adventure can be a great way to motivate students through the trials of exam season.
