ACTIVITY PACKAGE NEED TO KNOWS
The centre stands on the site of the famous discovery of Jorvik, the Viking city, and is a Key Stage 2 school trip destination that really fires the imagination.
Pupils on a school tour of Jorvik will get to see remains and objects from fascinating excavations, and journey through a reconstruction of Viking-Age streets, as they would have looked 1000 years ago.
One highlight on a primary school trip to York Castle Museum is Kirkgate: The Victorian Street. Pupils can explore the life of the rich and poor on this recreation of Victorian life, with cobbled streets, a school room, police cell and even authentic working shops. This is a fun and exciting way to learn more about the Victorians.

Brigantium is a large outdoor classroom disguised as a Roman auxiliary fort from the 1st Century AD. School groups visiting Brigantium will be recruited into the Roman army and equipped with uniform and dummy weapons. They will then be taught how to build a fort, train as a soldier and will learn craftwork from Roman times. An exciting hands on experience that will really bring this topic to life.
This museum covers Britain from the 1930’s, allowing visitors to travel back in time to Wartime Britain, experiencing the story, sights, sounds and smells of World War II.
Educational tours of the National Railway Museum can explore the science, technology and history of the railways, through a range of workshops and interactive exhibitions. The YHA is set in it's own grounds, 1 mile from York city centre. Some rooms are en-suite and some have shared facilities. It has a large reception area, lounge and terrace. You'll also find a well equipped games room here.
