Pupils on a school tour of Jorvik will get to see remains and objects from fascinating excavations, and journey through a reconstruction of Viking-Age streets, as they would have looked 1000 years ago.

York Castle Museum

One highlight on a primary school trip to York Castle Museum is Kirkgate: The Victorian Street. Pupils can explore the life of the rich and poor on this recreation of Victorian life, with cobbled streets, a school room, police cell and even authentic working shops. This is a fun and exciting way to learn more about the Victorians.

DIG

DIG offers a unique archaeological adventure for your pupils. Through curriculum-led workshops, primary school children will become ‘archaeological detectives.’ Finding out for themselves what the city was really like through the ages, from Roman times to the modern day.

York Minster

A school residential trip to York isn't complete without catching a glimpse of York Minster. One of the largest cathedrals in Europe, York Minster offers interactive workshops where pupils can find out about its past and present life. Alternatively, school visits to York Minster can take a treasure hunt around the cathedral - a fun way of discovering more about the story of this iconic building.

Brigantium Roman Fort

Brigantium is a large outdoor classroom disguised as a Roman auxiliary fort from the 1st Century AD. School groups visiting Brigantium will be recruited into the Roman army and equipped with uniform and dummy weapons. They will then be taught how to build a fort, train as a soldier and will learn craftwork from Roman times. An exciting hands on experience that will really bring this topic to life.
