Imperial War Museum North

The Imperial War Museum North gives students a chance to learn about the First and Second World War in ways they'll never forget.

With exhibits on themes such as the Blitz, evacuation, life on the home front, rationing and trench warfare, a primary school tour of the museum will truly bring history lessons to life. Studies of the inter-war period, modern conflict, and cross-curricular subjects can also be enriched by a visit.

Legoland Discovery Centre

The Centre offers workshops designed to bring Maths, Science, Engineering and Language to life and encourage skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. A wonderful balance of learning and fun! Key Stage 2 school trip workshops include:

  • Go-Cart: Combining STEM principles to identify a wheel and axle and where friction might be found. Students must predict the outcome of various tests using LEGO vehicle builds
  • Catapult: Focusing on engineering and technology, students apply knowledge and skills related to structures, engineering design, weight and counterweight, and fair testing via construction of a LEGO Catapult.
  • Robotics: Develop key computing aspects including writing and debugging programs by building and programming amazing LEGO® robotic creations and bringing them to life!

National Justice Museum

The education team offers school workshops in legal and heritage sites across Manchester and Bolton. Students have the opportunity to step into these professional courtrooms, learn more about the legal justice system of past and present and explore careers in law.

KS2 workshops include Crime & Punishment, Courtroom Workshop and Tour & Play.

Greater Manchester Police Museum

This 1879 police station, and 1895 courtroom make the perfect setting for Victorian school trips and atmospheric visits. Tours last approximately one and half – two hours (for younger visitors we recommend a shorter school tour) and you will be led around the museum by one of volunteers, many of whom are retired police officers.

Manchester Museum

With four floors of displays and fascinating exhibitions scattered across 15 different galleries, you can view collections from all over the world at Manchester Museum.

Founded as a natural history museum in 1821, the museum is now owned by the University of Manchester, and offers an excellent centre of learning for primary school tours. 

From a fossilised Tyrannosaurus Rex named Stan, to anthropology collections from South America, this museum offers a great opportunity to immerse your students in Science and Nature.

Runway Visitor Park, Manchester Airport

Located at the end of the busy Manchester Airport runway, Runway Visitor Park is a unique visitor attraction creating a fun and educational experience.

Through an interactive session with your school tour guides that includes role play, with props that will be cleaned between sessions, pupils will learn about the different job roles that help ensure Manchester Airport runs smoothly 365 days of the year.

The group will have the chance to go into Concorde to experience what it was like being a passenger on board this iconic aircraft, and to learn about some of the technology that helped her become the most famous passenger jet.

Stockport Air Raid Shelter

The Air Raid Shelters are a unique site which was excavated for World War II. Your school group will enjoy a memorable visit that truly brings 'The Home Front' to life.

The activities emphasise learning through a variety of 'first-hand’ experiences. Experienced learning facilitators will involve and engage your group as you visit this labyrinth of tunnels. To make their visit unforgettable, you can choose from either the Wartime Britain trip or the Evacuees Experience to learn about life as an evacuee in the Shelters.

Bramall Hall

This is a magnificent example of a black and white timber framed building. Built over many centuries, and added to greatly in the late 19th century, Bramall beautifully combines Tudor and Victorian architecture. Offering an enriching destination for primary school history trips. 

Surrounded by beautiful gardens, students can spot herons and colourful mandarin ducks in the duck pond, before diving into the history of Bramall Hall with a fascinating educational session.

Treetop Trek

A hugely exciting, confidence building and rewarding activity, providing a fantastic opportunity to be active outdoors. On this unforgettable high ropes adventure students need to work together to help each other overcome fears and complete the course. The trek will help children develop confidence, strength, control and balance.  35 exciting treetop challenges including aerial obstacles like rope bridges and wobbly logs.
