Imperial War Museum North

The Imperial War Museum North gives students a chance to learn about the First and Second World War in ways they'll never forget.

With exhibits on themes such as the Blitz, evacuation, life on the home front, rationing and trench warfare, a primary school tour of the museum will truly bring history lessons to life. Studies of the inter-war period, modern conflict, and cross-curricular subjects can also be enriched by a visit.

Legoland Discovery Centre

  • Go-Cart: Combining STEM principles to identify a wheel and axle and where friction might be found. Students must predict the outcome of various tests using LEGO vehicle builds
  • Catapult: Focusing on engineering and technology, students apply knowledge and skills related to structures, engineering design, weight and counterweight, and fair testing via construction of a LEGO Catapult.
  • Robotics: Develop key computing aspects including writing and debugging programs by building and programming amazing LEGO® robotic creations and bringing them to life!

National Justice Museum

The education team offers school workshops in legal and heritage sites across Manchester and Bolton. Students have the opportunity to step into these professional courtrooms, learn more about the legal justice system of past and present and explore careers in law.

Greater Manchester Police Museum

This 1879 police station, and 1895 courtroom make the perfect setting for Victorian school trips and atmospheric visits. Tours last approximately one and half – two hours (for younger visitors we recommend a shorter school tour) and you will be led around the museum by one of volunteers, many of whom are retired police officers.

Runway Visitor Park, Manchester Airport

Located at the end of the busy Manchester Airport runway, Runway Visitor Park is a unique visitor attraction creating a fun and educational experience.

The Air Raid Shelters are a unique site which was excavated for World War II. Your school group will enjoy a memorable visit that truly brings 'The Home Front' to life.

Bramall Hall

This is a magnificent example of a black and white timber framed building. Built over many centuries, and added to greatly in the late 19th century, Bramall beautifully combines Tudor and Victorian architecture. Offering an enriching destination for primary school history trips. 

Surrounded by beautiful gardens, students can spot herons and colourful mandarin ducks in the duck pond, before diving into the history of Bramall Hall with a fascinating educational session.
