School Trips To Italy

From classics and religious studies to geography and art and design, Italy is a fantastic school trip destination for a whole range of subjects. School trips to Italy allow students to explore the ancient buildings of Rome, the preserved cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and two of Europe’s highest volcanoes.

At WST, our destination and subject experts have a wealth of experience organising Italy school trips and can help you design a tour to meet your students’ specific learning objectives.

We offer the following unforgettable school trips to Italy:

Top Attractions

Mount Etna

Italy 5

Europe’s highest volcano, Mount Etna provides a fantastic study topic for budding geographers. Pupils can enjoy a guided Mount Etna adventure day where they’ll scale 2,900 metres above sea level to witness breath-taking views over Sicily. Providing students with an unparalleled opportunity to analyse their case study first hand, there’ll also be an alpine guide available to answer any questions your students may have.

Pompeii

An ancient city on the Bay of Naples, Pompeii was preserved for thousands of years after Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD and smothered it in pumice and volcanic ash. The lack of oxygen and moisture almost perfectly preserved a vast amount of the city, including houses, shops, temples and an amphitheatre. Student trips to Italy allow pupils to wander the ancient city, enabling them to delve into what life would have been like almost 2,000 years ago.

Vatican City

Italy 6

An unmissable opportunity for religious studies students, Vatican City is host to one of the holiest Catholic shrines. The burial site of St. Peter, St. Peter’s Basilica dominates the skyline and is a place of pilgrimage for Catholics all over the world. The Vatican Museums are also a brilliant study visit for art and design students, with the museums boasting one of the largest art collections in the world.

Italy Accommodation

We have a range of accommodation options for educational trips to Italy, from accommodation right in the centre of your destination to quieter options a bit further out. There are also choices to suit a range of budgets, and our destination experts will work with you to find an accommodation option that’s right for your students.

Local Cuisine

Italy 7

A cuisine which is loved by numerous countries around the world, Italian food is particularly popular with students. From classic Neapolitan pizza to traditional carbonara, there are plenty of opportunities for students to sample the local cuisine on Italy school trips. At WST, we’ll help you find and book restaurants which are suitable for large group bookings and have a range of food options to satisfy all tastes.

Hidden Gems

Sistine Chapel

Located in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope, the Sistine Chapel displays some of Michelangelo’s finest work. The frescos which decorate the interior were first revealed five hundred years ago and attract thousands of visitors each year. Religious studies and art and design students can observe the paintings as well as learn about the history of the chapel itself.

The Roman Forum

Italy 8

Ruins found in the heart of Italy’s capital, the Roman Forum offers a fascinating insight into what public life would have been like in Ancient Rome. The forum is a rectangular plaza surrounded by a number of government buildings, making it the hub of society. Classics students can walk in the footsteps of Marc Anthony Rostra and Julius Caesar while studying how the Romans built the focal point of their city.

Ruins of Herculaneum

Less well known than Pompeii, the city of Herculaneum was also destroyed by Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79AD. Once again, the volcanic ash preserved much of the city, from buildings and household objects to skeletons. Students can explore the remains of the ancient city, one which was in fact wealthier and more lavish than Pompeii.
