Top Attractions

Sagrada Família

Sagrada Familia

One of Antoni Gaudí’s most famous pieces, the Sagrada Família showcases his unique architectural style in all its glory. The construction of the Roman Catholic church began in 1773 and the build is still underway, with an estimated completion date of 2026. Both the inside and exterior of the impressive church have been decorated in Gaudi’s unique Gothic style, making a visit to this wondrous building an experience unlike any other.

Las Ramblas

A 1.2-kilometre-long street in the centre of Barcelona, Las Ramblas (sometimes referred to as La Rambla) cuts through the heart of the city and is a hive of activity. Awash with market stalls and cafés, the street can get very busy in high season, but provides numerous opportunities for students to practise their Spanish. La Boqueria Market can also be found on the street, selling a variety of Spanish foods.

Parc Güell

Park Guell

Another of Gaudí’s architectural masterpieces, a visit to Park Güell should be on every tourist in Barcelona’s checklist. The park’s design takes its inspiration from natural shapes, as well as having religious and mythological influences. Providing visitors with both incredible views back out over the city and a chance to see Gaudí’s colourful architectural style, the trip is a great way to round off a sunny afternoon.

Accommodation

Barcelona Accommodation

Youth accommodation centres offer great locations around the city combined with superb facilities for students. To be sure they meet our exacting standards we’ve personally inspected each of them.

Coastal Accommodation

If you’d prefer a beach resort, we have a good choice of hotels in well-known towns on the Costa Brava, such as Tossa de Mar, Malgrat and Calella. If you go to Costa Dorada, you’ll get a real Spanish feel with large hotels that are family run. Wherever you choose, you’ll have a swimming pool and will be just a few minutes’ walk from the beach.

Local Cuisine

One of the best parts of a school trip to Barcelona is sampling the local Catalan cuisine. Depending on location we can either arrange something traditionally Spanish so students can try an authentic paella or tapas tasting, or for a more lively evening, choose somewhere like the Hard Rock Café.

Famous for its delicious tapas, a few of the most popular tapas dishes include patatas bravas, potatoes covered in a spicy tomato sauce and a garlic mayonnaise; gambas a la plancha, whole shrimps garnished with lemon and salt; and croquetas, croquets with either a ham, fish, spinach or chicken filling.

Tapas

Although originating from Valencia, paella is also very popular in Catalonia. Paella, a rice and vegetable based dish flavoured with saffron, has many different variants but you’ll tend to find the seafood variety in Barcelona.

Hidden Gems

Plaza Reial

Plaza Reial, or Royal Square, can be found just off Las Ramblas and is a great spot to try out some traditional Spanish tapas. The square, which features a fountain at its centre, is lined with old cafés and restaurants where students can sample a few local dishes.

Parc del Laberint d’Horta

Parc Del Laberint D Horta

Tucked away in the Horta-Guinardó district, the Parc del Laberint d'Horta is a historical garden and the oldest of its kind in Barcelona. The park features a 750 metre maze which is made up of trimmed Cyprus trees and is great fun to find your way through!

Carrer Petritxol

A narrow street found in the Gothic Quarter, Carrer Petritxol is known to locals as Painters’ Street due to the abundance of artists who live there. The street is also home to Europe’s first ever art gallery which opened in 1840 and is still going strong today.

Free things to do

We all know that you want to pack as much into your school trip as possible but without raising the cost too much. Which is why we have put together a handy list of free activities and attractions for both teachers and students alike, visiting Catalonia.
