Things To Do On a School Trip to the Opal Coast

11 January 2016

Day trips can be an ideal taster for a school trip for those on a budget or for students who have never been away from home. These trips offer the chance to explore a new region or country, and also offer great opportunities for class fun and bonding.

Adjacent to Calais, with 120 miles of fine sandy beaches, elegant towns and pretty little fishing villages alive with character, the Opal Coast is a wonderful introduction to France, French culture and language, and can all be completed in a WST day trip!

Boulogne

The busy port town of Boulogne offers a wide range of visits for school tours, meaning groups can choose to spend half a day or a whole day here. At the heart of Boulogne is the Roman old town, ideal for sightseeing and shopping, perfect to pick up some bargains and souvenirs to take home.

A fabulous day trip to Boulogne! Everything went smoothly and the coach company was exemplary! Considering the journey was long and tiring, the organisation and the coach drivers enabled us to have the best trip possible! Manor Academy, Opal Coast, June 2014

WST school tours to the Opal Coast offer students an opportunity to get a taste of French culture from boulangeries where students can see how traditional French breads are made to demonstrations from professional chocolatiers and cheese tasting sessions.

Other popular visits include Becasuc sweet factory, Musée de l'Abeille Bee Museum and La Gaufre du Pays Flamand Waffle Factory, all of which offer guided tours and delicious tasting sessions!

Nausicaa Sea Centre

A school day trip to the Opal Coast would not be complete without a trip to the Nausicaa Sea Centre. From its unique interactive multimedia universe to its giant aquarium, Nausicaa will give your students a unique insight about the world's seas and oceans and is simply an unforgettable experience.

L'Escargotiére du Choquel – Snail Farm

Give your students a real taste of a French delicacy with a visit to L'escargotiere Du Choquel snail farm. This fascinating visit will show your group how snails are farmed and give them a chance to find out what they really taste like. Even if they don't try one it will still provide a great photo opportunity to take home from your trip!

If you've still got time, Le Touquet a stylish seaside resort is perfect for free time for games on the beach. A safe environment for students to visit a local café or go souvenir shopping, this is the perfect environment for students to practice their French language skills.

From the wonders of the sea to indulgent treats and French delicacies, the Opal Coast is a great way to improve your students’ awareness of other cultures and languages.
