Normandy sites for a historical school trip

18 November 2013

“Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it,” George Santayana.

Each year, thousands of schools make the short trip across the channel to witness, first-hand, the site of the Normandy landings. This location is just one of the many chosen by history educators to teach their students about the sacrifice made by Allied troops during the Second World War.

Of course, Normandy is not the only significant location in France for history students hoping to learn about the battles of the 20th Century; The Somme, Ypres, Verdun,  all offer young minds a first-hand experience of the horrors of war and the sacrifices made by men, not much older than themselves, in the pursuit of freedom and liberty.

Below, WST Travel has created an infographic of some of the destinations for educators hoping to take a class to Normandy.  Feel free to share any further ideas on Twitter at @WSTSchool Travel.
